What happens when the airbag deploys
Think all push-bike helmets are ugly? Well, we're here to tell you you're wrong, sister.
Check out the brand-new helmet you wear around your neck. That's right, around. Your. Neck. Like a scarf.
The Hövding is an airbag disguised as a helmet that saves your fashion prowess, along with your neck.
Designed like a hood and made in an ultra-strong nylon fabric that won't rip when scraped against the ground, the Hövding protects nearly all of the head, while still ensuring your vision stays open.
Bigger is better with the inflated airbag covering a much larger area than a traditional cycle helmet and it's designed according to current accident statistics. The protection is greatest where it's needed most and the airbag provides an extremely soft and gentle shock absorption.
In the case of accident, the pressure remains constant for several seconds, making it able to withstand multiple head impacts during the same accident. After that the airbag slowly starts to deflate.
Even better? The Hövding was created by two women who scored $13 million in venture funding and the backing of many top scientists and mathematicians to develop this system. The company is based in Sweden as well, which gives it cred, as their culture regards safety as one of their highest priorities.
