Sneak peak of 2017 Pirelli Calendar
When you’re talking about the ultimate in celebrity endorsement, you can’t go past the famous Pirelli Calendar.
Tyres have never looked so good with the soon to be released 2017 calendar snapped by world renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh on location in Berlin, London, Los Angeles, Le Touquet (North of Paris) and in New York.
Dating back to 1963, the Pirelli calendar is well known for not only showcasing the world’s most beautiful models photographed within - but for the photographers who shoot it.
This year, however, the line up is more movie star than model with snaps of A-list actresses featuring such names as our very own Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Uma Thurman, Robin Wright and Penelope Cruz Sanchez gracing the month by month pages.
Given Lindbergh’s background in cinematography, it’s little wonder the images of the worlds biggest female names of the silver screen are as anticipated as the 2017 edition. Pirelli’s message of including women as more than a perfect photographic image is timely not only as they are increasingly important in the tyre purchase, but also the decision to use Lindbergh is genius given his own well recognised definition of a humanist approach and idealisation of women. This etho was his claim to fame, setting him apart from the other photographers as he privileges the soul and the personality over external beauty. Remember George Michael's old Freedom! 90 video? It was inspired by Lindbergh. As was Gianni Versace, who used him for many a VOGUE photo shoot.
Lindbergh drastically changed the standards of the fashion photography in times of excessive retouching, considering that there is something else that makes a person interesting, beyond their age.
He explained,"This should be the responsibility of photographers today to free women, and finally everyone, from the terror of youth and perfection”.
AutoChic has the exclusive scoop of behind the scene images of the shoot that was styled by New York based stylist JULIA VON BOEHM (Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue Germany) with makeup by Stephanie Marais. That is, until we of course recieve our copy of the scarce as hen's teeth 2017 calendar. *Ahem.
