The Dodge Journey

The Dodge Journey

Review by Lin(ny) Avrahami

Note to Mums:

This car looks like a 4WD, but is actually a 7-seater front wheel drive only.

Describe the car in 3 words

If I had to describe this car in 3 words I would say ‘Mum's Luxurious Saviour', as I believe that the many hours spent driving will be pleasurable for all passengers and that's what we want, to keep the little petals happy.

Best CD soundtrack for this car

My suggestion for the CD player would have to depend on my passengers. If I was taking the younger ones, I would definitely have The Wiggles; for the teens - their choice (less arguments).

If I was travelling alone with my man, something soothing to relax and concentrate on the drive and ultimate destination.

How it drives

Although slow to start with, the car handled just like any other large people mover and was quite smooth on the road -just felt a bit heavy, but with all that added safety it was an easy drive...

Safety

There are lots of airbags: driver and front passenger as well as front seat side and side bags in all 3 rows.

It also has an electronic stability program, which means if you negotiate a corner at a high speed and start to roll or sway, the system straightens you up; a reversing camera, which is a must with high-set vehicles; remote keyless entry, and a tyre pressure monitoring warning light, which helps me out as I'm always forgetting to get air in the tyres.

There's also a security alarm and a ‘sentry key', which is a theft-deterrent system. Leave my car alone!

Entertainment features

All in all, this is the ultimate in features for your comfort on a long drive, especially with the kids, whether they're young or teenagers. With optional entertainment packages, i.e my gig entertainment system, a second row video screen and an optional power sun roof, you should have many hours of fight-free motoring and maybe not much need to reach for the headache tablets. If you do, you can always have ice with your water" from the chill storage bins...

More goodies

* Chill zone storage beverage storage bins provide a great way to keep drinks and tempers cool on a long drive

* Front passenger seat with a Flip n' Stow compartment - just right for the not too bulky handbag. Finally someone has come up with a spot for it

* Illuminated cup holders, definitely helps when you need that caffeine fix

* Removable rechargeable torch, great to help you out at night

* Automatic temperature control to help keep your cool or warm you up

* Power windows are tinted

* AM/FM radio with integrated 6-disc CD/DVD with MP3 capability.

Interior

If you choose the Dodge Journey R/T model rather than the standard SXT, the difference is in the trim. The R/T model has chrome door handles, wheels, etc. (flashier to look at). Both have a 77.6 litre fuel tank with the choice of diesel or unleaded fuel.

Colours

There are 8 colours to choose from: Inferno Red Crystal Pearl, Bright Silver Metallic, Melbourne Green Pearl, Light Sandstone Metallic, Silver Steel Metallic, Deep Water Blue Pearl, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl and Stone White.

Boot & storage

The boot area is small in comparison to the carrying capacity of people in this vehicle. If there were 7 passengers, there wouldn't be a lot of space for luggage. A lesser amount of passengers would give you the option to fold the third or second row of seats.

You can also sleep in the vehicle if there were just the 2 of you, as the second set of seats folds down flat. A nice alternative to a tent?
